Tea comparison
Black tea vs green tea: the simple version.
Both come from tea leaves and both can be beautiful. The biggest everyday differences are flavor, caffeine feel, water temperature, and steep time.
Black tea
Usually fuller, bolder, and more forgiving. Good for breakfast-style cups, Earl Grey, dessert blends, and fruit black teas.
Green tea
Usually lighter, fresher, and more sensitive to hot water. Good for jasmine, lemon, berry, pomegranate, and gentle afternoon cups.
Caffeine
Both usually contain caffeine. If you want caffeine-free, look for herbal, rooibos, honeybush, chamomile, or decaf teas.
How to brew them.
Black tea can usually handle boiling water and 3+ minutes. Green tea usually tastes better with below-boiling water and a shorter 1-2 minute steep. If green tea tastes harsh, the water was probably too hot or the steep was too long.
